When Ashley Medders set out to create a snack her daughter could safely enjoy, she wasn’t launching a business—she was simply being a mom. After her daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease at just 13 months old, Ashley and her husband, Chris, began experimenting in the kitchen to craft something both nutritious and gluten-free. What started as a loving solution for their baby has grown into Medders Family Farm, Alabama’s own gluten-free nut butter brand.

From one family’s kitchen to your pantry, Medders nut butters are now proudly available at Piggly Wiggly Birmingham locations. We’re honored to support local and excited to offer a product that started with heart—and ended up on our shelves.

How a Family’s Gluten-Free Solution Became a Southern Staple

A Family’s Mission

Ashley Medders never set out to be a food entrepreneur. “It started as a way to help my daughter heal,” she recalls. Diagnosed with celiac disease as a baby, Ashley’s daughter needed completely gluten-free meals and safe, satisfying snacks.

Peanut butter quickly became a go-to for the family, but most store-bought options risked cross-contamination. So Ashley and Chris took matters into their own hands—starting with roasted peanuts and blending in flavors their daughter would love. Soon, their homemade peanut butters began drawing interest from friends, neighbors, and eventually local farmers markets.

Building a Farm from the Ground Up

Medders Family Farm isn’t just a product—it’s a passion project born from perseverance. The Medders family renovated a foreclosed farmhouse in rural Alabama, transforming it into both their home and a working farm. Through Alabama storms, supply chain hurdles, and growing demand, they stayed committed.

Today, it’s a full family operation. Even their daughter, now 9 years old, helps label jars—each one a small symbol of love, resilience, and commitment to safe, family-friendly food.

Celiac-Safe, Clean Label Nut Butters You Can Trust

Gluten-Free, Always

For families managing food allergies, peace of mind matters just as much as flavor. That’s why Medders Family Farm incorporates strict cross-contamination prevention into every step of production. From dedicated equipment to hand-prepared ingredients, every batch is crafted with safety in mind.

While some of their pies use gluten-free graham crackers, their peanut butters—like the beloved s’mores blend—do not contain crackers or chocolate chunks. Instead, their s’mores peanut butter gets its graham-like flavor from specially roasted peanuts that bring a toasty depth, complemented by real marshmallow and a custom-melted chocolate blend. The result is a smooth, spreadable treat that tastes like a campfire classic—with zero chunks, crumbs, or gluten risk.

Simple Ingredients, Bold Flavors

Medders nut butters are all about clean, simple goodness. No artificial dyes. No fillers. No preservatives you can’t pronounce. Just premium ingredients you can trust.

“We take pride in crafting peanut butter blends we’d happily share at our own family table,” Ashley explains. It’s a farm-to-jar approach that puts people—and flavor—first.

From S’mores to Salted Caramel: Nut Butters with Personality

Best-Selling Blend: S’mores Peanut Butter

Inspired by childhood campfires and made safe for modern families, the s’mores peanut butter is a fan favorite. With no added chunks or crumbs, the unique blend of roasted peanuts, melted chocolate, and fluffy marshmallow delivers a creamy, indulgent spread that captures all the nostalgia—without the gluten.

“A gluten-free twist on a classic treat—with all the campfire flavor, none of the worry.”

Ashley’s Favorite: Salted Caramel Peanut Butter

Smooth, salty, and sweet, this peanut butter blend is perfect for drizzling over banana bread or mixing into a protein-packed smoothie. It offers a rich peanut taste balanced by real caramel—nostalgic yet refined.

Why Their Flavors Stand Out

Every flavor from Medders Family Farm goes through extensive testing to nail down the perfect texture, taste, and shelf life. They regularly invite customer feedback, even hosting seasonal flavor contests to let their fans shape what’s next.

It’s a community-powered flavor lab—with heart.

How to Enjoy Them

These nut butters aren’t just for spreading on toast—though they’re fantastic for that too. Use them to:

  • Dip apple slices or pretzels
  • Bake gluten-free cookies
  • Blend into smoothies
  • Swirl into oatmeal
  • Top off ice cream

Just note: While Medders also produces almond butters, those are made in a facility that processes peanuts and contain peanut oil—so they’re not suitable for those with peanut allergies.
